Místicas. Brujas, diosas y ocultistas en los arquetipos del tarot highlights the participation
of women in the history of occultism through twenty-two portraits that engage with the arcana.
Artists, poets, mediums, goddesses, and warriors who experienced contact with the supernatural
and whose lives illuminate a tradition so often told without them.
The book draws precise correspondences between biographies and symbols:
Sylvia Plath (The Moon) confronts the bond with her mother;
Safo (The Lover) reminds us that love is — also — bitter;
Dion Fortune (Temperance) marches to war with a battalion of meditators;
Marie Anne Lenormand (The Chariot) goes from orphaned child to diviner of the French elite.
Their journeys confirm a central idea: women can be dark; we have been dark.
