AN EXQUISITE SELECTION OF HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF MEN IN LOVE

Loving. A photographic history is a visually extraordinary sensitive narrative that brings to light the exceptional and unpublished Hugh Nini & Neal Treadwell collection, composed of more than 2,800 photographs taken between 1850 and 1960, capturing the loving feelings between men in the most diverse contexts, such as domestic settings, military environments, scenes in parks or beaches, and so on. The images, almost all anonymous and from many countries, were found ―initially "by chance"― over the course of twenty years by Hugh Nini and Neal Treadwell at flea markets, family archives, old shoeboxes, and online auctions. The originality and uniqueness of the collection, and the emotions it manages to evoke, are reason enough to justify this international editorial project that attests to the universality of romantic love between men. "At first, we bought the photographs because they seemed to speak directly to us. Soon we began actively searching for them. As we found them, we felt that we had embarked on a kind of rescue mission. Those photographs had withstood a test imposed by time that lasted between seventy and one hundred seventy years, and we became guardians of those unusual survivors, whose lives and feelings were brought to light at that very moment. Over the years and with an increasing number of photographs, we began to feel a vague duty to show them to others."
