The last link between the classic folk singers and the first of a regenerating lineage, she became the hinge that united two ways of understanding copla, flamenco, and music in general. At the same time, her voice and stage presence marked the transition between the Spain emerging from dictatorship and the one taking its first steps in democracy.

A feminist, ally of the LGTBIQ+ community, victim of Francoist censorship and, at the same time, a bullfighter’s wife, devoted mother, and devotee of the Virgin of Regla, Rocío embodies like few others the tensions between tradition and modernity, rupture and continuity, both personally and professionally. She was also an artist whose magnetism allowed her to connect with very different audiences across generations.

Twenty years after her death, eight voices revisit the relevance of her legacy, exploring her career as a singer, actress, muse of the celebrity press, and queer icon, among other facets. A collective work that confirms what is already known: Rocío Jurado is an immortal pop icon who, no matter how much time passes, will always be La Más Grande.
