The history of the Suevic kingdom of Hispania is an unfortunate one. Ignored in most histories of Spain, valued as an appendix at best, or as a mere supporting role in those of the Visigothic kingdom, the first Germanic kingdom in the West has always been mistreated. In the hands of non-professional historians or those not always respectful of historical criticism, attempts to approach its vicissitudes have been scarce and completely scattered. Thus, this monograph presents itself as the first major exposition of the course of this peninsular kingdom, which between the 4th and 6th centuries AD occupied the northwestern area of the Peninsula until its disappearance and integration into the Visigothic kingdom of Toledo. Rescuing the history of this kingdom from oblivion and contextualizing it is, today, an essential task that will help us better understand the history of Spain, beyond the historiographical clichés so common in narratives about it.
