El pensamiento heterosexual: y otros ensayos (Contextos)
Ediciones Paidós
Monique Wittig's heterosexual thought, a lesbian activist and feminist, is a landmark work in queer theory that revolutionized the field of feminist studies since its publication.
Through nine essays, Monique Wittig proposes focusing from a gender perspective on all those fundamental issues for the construction of the ideology of the modern world: social order, class struggle, power structures, and language. The author wants to differentiate the concept of "woman" as a myth imposed by oppression and "women" as a class resulting from social relations.
Wittig rejects heterosexuality as a sexual orientation or practice and presents it as a political regime based on the submission and appropriation of women. The author argues that a woman is a social, political, and ideological person who can escape heteronormativity and presents the figure of the lesbian as a runaway slave from the exclusive heterosexual system, since she does not need the other term of the binary opposition.
Heterosexual thought is a classic work of feminist thought: a precursor of queer theory, it remains essential today for deepening gender studies.
