Usually, this type of narrative has been reduced to an anecdotal history, an introspective pretext, or a semiotic resource, if not a sensationalist fallacy. After a broad introduction aimed at understanding the factors that hinder the comprehension of myth in our contemporary culture (globalization, relativism, and immanence), this book delves into the notion of sacred supernatural transcendence, a fundamental category for a correct distinction between myth and other correlates of the imaginary: esotericism, fantasy, magic, science fiction. Subsequently, this volume offers a study of myth from within myth itself. It argues that myth is a functional, symbolic, and thematic narrative of extraordinary events with a sacred supernatural transcendental referent, lacking, in principle, historical testimony, and referring to an individual or collective cosmogony or eschatology, but always absolute. The cultural Mythocriticism defended here thus counters academic reflection that has confused myth with other related but distinct concepts (symbol, theme, archetype, prototype, hero) and rejects its servile use by other sciences (anthropology, sociology, politics, psychoanalysis). Far from being ignored, these scientific disciplines and their respective techniques have been employed to understand the various processes of mythification and demythification carried out in our time, both on authentic mythical characters and on historical and literary characters supposedly mythological. The novelty of this interdisciplinary proposal is not addressed in the abstract but contrasted in light of brief or extensive analyses of numerous literary texts brought up among the main mythologies of our cultural environment (Greco-Roman, biblical, Norse, Celtic, Slavic, and Finno-Ugric). This first comprehensive theory of myth also provides a methodology, a hermeneutics, and an epistemology: it offers clear guidelines to locate myth in any mythical narrative, proposes heuristic keys for its objective interpretation, and provides mythocriticism with solid foundations to assert itself as an autonomous science.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Akal","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57584357015896,"sku":"AMZ9788446052678","price":34.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0925\/8464\/0856\/files\/5647733485195.jpg?v=1782689760","url":"https:\/\/www.plasticbooks.uk\/en\/products\/mitocritica-cultural-una-definicion-del-mito-9788446052678","provider":"Plastic Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
